Daily Photos: Day 274

Monday, September 29th
At some of the photography sites I visit I keep seeing all these beautiful pictures of golden fields at sunset and I wanted to try and recreate the photos I've been seeing. I had trouble finding a suitable field so we opted for some weeds by the river... we were also there a little too early and Ben was getting very impatient so we didn't stay long. He did let me snap a picture or two. I didn't quite get the effect I wanted but I managed to make his ears glow red!

Daily Photos: Day 273

Sunday, September 28th

Izzie is still fascinated with water. And after one year her hair is finally getting long enough to be curly at the back.

Saturday, September 27th

Yesterday we took Ben and Izzie to the doctor for their check-ups. Ben is 37 3/4 inches tall and doing great. He's in the 50th percentile for height and weight. Ben was so excited to go to the doctor - he kept asking about it all week. "When do we go to the doctor? What's the doctor going to do?" Both the children were required to have a lead check (both fine) and neither of them cried when they got poked. Izzie chewed the bandaid off her finger within seconds, and Ben cried after the fact because he didn't like the bandaid and wanted it off his finger. (Maybe because Izzie got hers off?)

Izzie is 20 pounds, 6 ounces and has dropped from 90th percentile in weight to the 25th, but that's normal since she's been crawling and climbing everywhere! She got 4 injections plus the lead test, so she was poked 5 times. Two nurses gave the shots -each nurse took a thigh and gave one shot and then they reloaded and gave the next two. After the first set Izzie started screaming. One of the nurses looked at her face and said, "Oh, she's mad!" She calmed down very quickly once the shots were over, though.

We discovered that Izzie has an umbilical hernia. Her outie is really an outie depending on how full her tummy is and her positioning. If I put my hand on her belly sometimes I can't feel it much at all and other times it's really obvious. It's nothing to be worried about and will probably close up on its own. If it doesn't go away by the time she's 4 years old, she can have a minor operation to take care of it. The doctor said it isn't a problem unless the hernia is large enough that other kids can pull it. (Ouch!) Or, it could become a problem when she is pregnant. Anyway, we have three years in which it could close by itself before we have to think about it again.

When she's not climbing into the potty or onto the rocking horse, Izzie likes to play with tape.

Wednesday, September 24th
Izzie is not quite as happy as Ben to be in this picture. Although she looks very distraught I can assure you the tears vanished as quickly as they appeared. I was trying to get a picture of their wrinkly feet after their bath.

And here it is.

What in the world is going on here?

Well, Izzie, it appears your brother is turning all your grapes cut side down for you. I don't know why.

In the evening we took a walk down to the elementary school near us. Ben headed over to the swings. As I snapped this picture Ben called, "Hey guys, come on!" and Izzie immediately swivelled her head in his direction and called back, "Be!" (Ben) She is also saying bye, more, and quack.

Still not walking, but she loves climbing!

Saturday, September 20th

Recently Izzie has discovered how to climb on things in order to see out the window. In her bedroom she uses Ben's Lightning McQueen chair.

In the family room she uses her rocking horse.

Friday, September 19th

Judging by Izzie's enjoyment of cake - both hers and Ben's - and her presents, I think she's going to like birthdays every bit as much as Ben does. The two of them love this present from Grandma Patsy and Grandpa Wingo. It's a fabric barn with a handle on top. The roof opens up and 4 stuffed animals fit inside. Each animal has its name embroidered on it and can make a sound. Izzie likes to drag the barn around with her and open and close the velcro on the roof, and Ben has played with it as much or more than Izzie. At random moments I've even heard him saying to himself the words written on the roof of the barn, "My barnyard friends."

Sometimes when I explain something to Ben I'll tell him what I what him to know and then ask,"Did you know that?" (I'm always curious to know if I'm telling him something new or if he already knows it all!) He's taken to saying the same words. The other day we were driving and he said, "Did you know that lights bring cars to their houses?" I think he meant that the streetlights showed the cars how to get home. As I took this picture he asked me, "Mom, did you know that cows and pigs hug?"

Wednesday, September 17th

Well, I was going to post a video of Ben's third year, but our computer got a virus and we had to move all the pictures. Apparently when you save a video in Moviemaker using the pictures you imported it doesn't actually save those pictures within the program. Thus when we moved them from the computer we also moved them out of the video. Grrr. So now I'm starting all over again...

In the meantime, here's a picture of Ben enjoying one of the new toys Grandma and Grandpa brought when they visited in July.

Happy Birthday Ben!
Ben thoroughly enjoyed his cake!

After days of asking, "Now I'm three?" he finally got the yes answer he had been waiting for. Next question: "What happens after that?" When I explained that after three you turned four (but not for a long time) Ben's eyes lit up with excitement. "Is four a birthday too?"

Now that Izzie is one she is proud to eat her banana like a big girl. (Plus she doesn't tend to squish it in her hands and throw it on the floor as much when it's still in the peel.)

We took these Saturday night on our walk with the wagon while Daddy was at work. When we strolled through the park we had been at with Katie the weekend before, Ben looked up at me with sparkling eyes and said, "I'm getting a little bit thirsty. How about we get a drink from the man on the sidewalk?" So we continued downtown, bought a drink for fifty cents and sat down on a bench across from this memorial to enjoy it. The only problem was that Izzie wanted it too - I kept trying to offer her some water out of my bottle but she wanted the pop that Ben and I were sharing!

Ben was quite interested in the lights...
and resulting shadows.

Friday, September 5th

We went for a drive to Wautaga Lake and Ben made friends with a man on a motorcycle who was taking a break and enjoying the view.

It was the man's idea to let Ben sit on the bike, but Ben certainly didn't argue.

The answer is no! You absolutely cannot have one.
