Daily Photos: Day 31

Ben served up a fine feast for Izzie today. Too bad she couldn't reach any of the food.
I thought he was too big, but he told me he would fit.

Laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh!

Two out of two children agree: if you say the same word over and over, it's really funny!

Daily Photos: Day 29

I've never lived anywhere where so many crickets get in! Ben was both intrigued and repulsed... he touched it but didn't want to do it again. We scooped this little guy up on a piece of paper and threw him outside. Can't wait until he's old enough to do that himself.

Daily Photos: Day 28

This is an extra patrol cap of Daddy's.

There's a hat to go with this outfit, but it wouldn't fit her head so she got to wear Ben's old hat instead. Of course then Ben wanted to wear it too. Looks like I'm now the only one in the family without any camouflage in my wardrobe!

Ben begged to be in the picture "side baby" and this is what does!

Daily Photos: Day 25

Izzie has her thumb (always her left) in her mouth even during her bath.
Ben checks himself out in the mirror.

Riverbanks Zoo

This was Ben's first time to go to a zoo and I think he really liked it, although he seemed just as happy to walk over the small bridges as to see the animals.

Ben was excited to see the koalas because he has just recently learned the word and he could point out that there was a baby and a mama.

Ben panicked when this fish started coming at him, but after I laughed he calmed down.

I thought one of the highlights of the trip would be Ben getting to feed the giraffes, but the feeding area was closed. One hopeful giraffe came up to see us anyway.

This is a green tree monitor. Ben likes his long tail.

The jellyfish were very serene. Seemed like there should have been some Enya playing over the speakers.

Ben didn't even try to say flamingo (or hippopotamus), but his attempts at alligator and octopus were very understandable.

I don't know what kind of fish this is, but doesn't it look like it was made out of somebody's dress from the 70's?

Leopard shark.

My favorite - the king cobra! (Stop squealing, Mom... it's behind glass!)

Ben's thoughts on the animals were as follows:
orangutang: "Loud."
hippo: "Big bum."
elephant: "Big nose."
llama: "Horse."

Daily Photos: Day 24

Izzie seems to like having her arms up around her head. Could this be a second child defense mechanism? Ben has rolled her over twice now, and tried to stick a dinosaur tail in her mouth the other day. At each of her doctor visits the doctor has told us to watch Ben like a hawk and make sure he knows not to feed her. It's a wonder younger siblings survive. Ben hasn't got the hang of tracing the letters yet, but he sure is having fun drawing on his legs...

Daily Photos: Day 23

Izzie had a hard day fending off her big brother and the little girl of friends of ours. In addition to her cold she now has a big scratch on her right cheek so she needed some extra cuddling today. For this picture I was holding her with my left arm and trying to take the picture with my right. Because of the angle I couldn't look through the viewfinder and didn't expect this picture would be worth keeping, but I decided I really like it.Ben decided to join in on the action. I haven't actually downloaded any of his pictures to the computer, although it's possible with his camera!

Daily Photos: Day 22

Our first stop on the drive home was at Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina.
Home at last to sleep in our own beds.

Daily Photos: Day 21

Izzie had been holding things in for a day and let it all out while we were doing laundry at Colin's room. Since we didn't have any extra clothes for her (other than the ones being washed already) she got to live in towels for an hour. Ben likes to build cars, trains and planes out of pillows and blankets. He insisted that this one was a plane. We didn't mind him messing up the bed - after falling out three times in one night we decided he'd be spending future nights on the floor.

Daily Photos: Day 20

Hmm, this picture looks strangely similar to the one from Day 16... oops. Oh well. She doesn't do that much yet, and I don't always have as much time to be as creative as I'd like.
Both of the children are sick and at any given moment Ben is either asking for paper for his nose, or wiping it on his sleeve.

Christmas 2007

It took me a while, but here are some of the photos from our visit to Oklahoma over Christmas. It was great to see everyone, and no ice storm!

The piano music is my sister Julee!

First Snow

Technically not his first experience with snow, but the first where he had a name for it and understood that it came out of the sky like rain.

Daily Photos: Day 15

Our "little" Izzie went to the doctor for her 4 month check-up... she's 15 pounds 11 ounces!

Daily Photos: Day 14

On Monday mornings Ben likes to watch the garbage truck on its rounds. In the summer we go outside to watch and the workers almost always wave at him.
