Daily Photos: Day 242

Thursday, August 28th
Izzie was up way too early this morning and in a great mood. Groggy as I was, how could I not smile at joy like this? (And check out her 5 teeth!)

Why Daddy is more fun than Mommy!

Friday, August 22nd

Back at Fort Jackson again to pick Colin up. There was a playground behind our lodging and the teeter-totter was perfect for Ben and Izzie to play on.

Izzie thought she was riding a bucking bronco!

Izzie learned that you can play peekaboo with your own shirt...

But the effort of being cute pooped her right out.

These two pictures show Ben and Izzie at almost exactly the same age - within days of each other.

Monday, August 18th

We went out for a walk with the wagon. Ben was being really cute holding both of Izzie's hands and rocking her back and forth. Izzie was so excited she was squealing with delight. It was getting too dark for me to focus well (and the rocking wasn't helping!) so I didn't get a good one of them together. We'll just have to go for another walk and see if they do it again.

Daily Photos: Day 231

Sunday, August 17th

We went to a birthday party for three children from church. There was a cake with cars on it (three of them) and a Superman pinata! Ben was very excited about hitting it and picking up the candy!

The children were so tired they fell asleep within minutes of leaving the party, and I managed to get them both into the house without waking either of them up!

Ben samples his rubber snake... later I discovered he actually bit off a piece of the tail and was chewing it like bubblegum!

I'm not sure Izzie likes trucks to the extent that Ben does, but she certainly doesn't shun playing with them.

Izzie actually had the plastic cookie first, then Ben got his hands (and mouth) on it. Then Izzie decided to arm herself!

Wednesday, August 13th

I took this picture after midnight, since Izzie was up screaming and crying. Not that you can tell from this picture - as soon as I picked her up she stopped crying. As soon as I set her back in the crib it started again. We hung out in the family room for a while and eventually I deposited her back in the crib and hoped Ben would sleep through her initial protest. (We recently moved Izzie's crib into Ben's bedroom hoping it would help her sleep through the night. She's down to waking only once.) And Ben has yet to be woken up by her crying.

Just imagine what she's going to be like as a teenager!

Ben got a haircut before we had to say goodbye to Daddy. The lady gave him TWO suckers! I think the hairdresser did a great job - she got it shorter, but not so short that it shocked me. In the past I've had to adjust to the haircut. For about a week after I keep thinking, wow, that's short!

Monday, August 11th

The waterpark at Fort Jackson was closed the day we were there so Ben had to make do with the playground next to it. It was so hot he didn't even complain when Mommy wanted to take a picture - because that meant going into the shade.

More fun in the tub.

Well, up until this point.

Daily Photos: Day 222

Friday, August 8th

It's wonderful to see Ben and Izzie interacting more and more. They are starting to play together in small ways - chasing each other around the house or copying each other's actions and vocal sounds. Ben is very good at making Izzie laugh by laughing himself.

Ben alternates between picking on Izzie and looking after her. More than a few times he's said, "What's that in Izzie's mouth?" When we were driving in Nova Scotia he informed us that she had blood coming out of her ear. It turned out to be nothing - a scratch or a bite, but we were glad he told us. As they grow up I'm sure there will be days of what seems like non-stop squabbling, so for now we're enjoying the times they snuggle up like best friends.

Izzie is getting very good at standing up and gently letting herself down. We keep encouraging her to take steps, but she leans forward without moving her feet!

Daily Photos: Day 220

Wednesday, August 6th

Recently Ben has been asking to "read" his "Korea book" which is a photo album of pictures from Korea. He wants to know who each person is, and hear all about his first birthday party. He can identify people he doesn't even remember and likes to point to each one and say their names: Uncle Tim, Uncle Jeff, Munju Imo, Grace Imo... The teddy bear in this picture was made by Munju Imo and Ben has taken to carrying it around and sleeping with it. One day I asked Ben if he wanted to put a cloth diaper or some underwear on it. Ben looked at me like I was feeble-minded. "Teddy bears don't wear diapers," he explained. "Teddy bears don't wear underwear. He just has legs."

One of Izzie's latest tricks is sticking her bottom up in the air and looking between her legs! Often when she does it Ben will run up beside her and do it too!

Daily Photos: Day 219

Tuesday, August 5th

We made a fort for Ben with the Honda table and a blanket. He and Izzie crawled in and out of it several times before Ben decided Izzie wasn't allowed in his fort - so we made one for her out of the highchair. Of course then Ben decided he liked Izzie's better, so this is a picture of Ben in Izzie's fort.

Daily Photos: Day 217

Sunday, August 3rd

This is the transition area at the Panther Creek Xterra Triathlon.

The race began with an 800m swim in Cherokee Lake. There was actually a sign posted: Swimming Prohibited!

After the swim was a 16.6 mile mountain bike.

Last was a 4.5 mile run. Colin is in the red shirt - and all this after the 10k the day before!

On our end there was a lot of waiting around, but the children were very good. We had a small crisis when Ben wanted to drink the gatorade provided for the racers and I wouldn't let him. (It was a very hot day and the racers still had two events to complete.) His meltdown was curtailed when a race administrator came over and talked to him. During this time I remembered I had a box of Nerds in my backpack. It's amazing how much time you can kill when you're eating Nerds one by one!

Daily Photos" Day 216

Saturday, August 2

This weekend we went to Morristown so that Colin could compete in a couple of races. While he ran 10 kilometers, Ben, Izzie and I snacked and waited and made friends with a really small dog.

The dog was so small that Izzie would have killed it had she sat down on it. (It was only 6 weeks old.) Ben enjoyed petting it, and I thought Izzie would be interested too so I set her down close by. She took one look at the tiny dog and started crying!

But she did have lots of fun putting on Ben's hat and pulling it off again!

Now that Izzie is big enough we can combine her bath with Ben's. The two of them think it's great to be in the tub together, and the foam letters keep them occupied for a long time. The bathtub: Mommy's secret weapon!
